Aldi Ireland’s partnership with Blackwater Distillery has seen success on the world stage yet again, winning a Gold and a Silver for two of its bespoke spirits, Púca Irish Whiskey, returning to Aldi shelves on the 23rd March and Boyle’s Raspberry Blush Gin, on sale now. Another new spirit, Day Star Premium Bourbon, a collaboration with West Cork Distillers, also won Gold and is launching exclusively with Aldi nationwide on 13th June 2021.
The World Spirits Awards, announced on 20th March in Austria, are considered the highest quality spirits awards in the world, honouring the best producers and products of spirits globally. The awards for ‘Best Spirits’ are determined using a ranking system based on Wolfram Ortner's spirits rating system. This is a 100-point system specifically designed for spirits with five rating criteria.
The success at the World Spirit Awards is another feather in the cap of Blackwater Distillery who were recently awarded the title of Best Irish Classic Gin for Boyle’s Small Batch Botanical Gin (€24.99) and Silver in the Flavoured Gin category for Boyle’s Raspberry Blush Gin at the World Gin Awards.
Gold: Púca Irish Whiskey Small Batch by Blackwater Distillery
70cl
€24.99 on sale from 28th March
Premium Irish Whiskey, aged in freshly-emptied Irish Stout and Rum Casks to give a unique flavour profile. Not coloured. Not chill-filtered. Whiskey as nature intended. Púca Irish Whiskey is presented in an attractive gift box to make this an amazing gift for the whiskey lover in your life.
Gold: Day Star Bourbon by West Cork Distillers
70cl
€19.99 on sale from the 13th June
Distilled in Ireland, this is the finest whiskey, aged in virgin oak casks. With a high corn content and 21% rye, Daystar has aromas of vanilla, caramel, dried fruit and cream with a light spice to the finish and a slightly candied, spicy taste.
Silver: Boyle’s Raspberry Blush Gin by Blackwater Distillery
70cl, €24.99 on sale now
First and foremost this is a gin distilled with raspberries, not a liqueur. It’s not sweetened and doesn’t use artificial flavours. The raspberries here are fresh and the juniper is not shy. There’s a spicy middle with lovely tickle of pink peppercorns and a wonderful twist of orange at the finish.
Peter Mulryan of Blackwater Distillery said: “We are so pleased for two of our products to win these prestigious awards. It’s great to partner with Aldi to bring the very best spirits to the Irish market.”
Tom Doorley, Aldi’s Spirits Expert said:
“The word unique is used far too much but Púca Irish Whiskey is just that: unique. A blended Irish whiskey, put together by the Blackwater Distillery, and finished in rum casks and barrels that were used for an Irish craft stout. So, it's uniquely complex, and to be honest, uniquely brilliant value.”
Aldi has a wide range of award-winning beers, wines and spirits in 145 stores nationwide every day.
