Toast National Wine Day with Aldi’s top Wine Picks for Under €10!

This year, National Wine Day takes place on May 25th. So, wine not mark the occasion by heading to your nearest Aldi and picking up a bottle from the fabulous range available across 150 stores nationwide! To celebrate, Aldi has enlisted resident wine expert Tom Doorley to recommend six of his favourites to guide your selection. From rich reds to refreshing rosés, there is something to suit every taste. Best of all, they all retail for under €10, meaning you can enjoy exceptional quality wine at exceptionally low prices! Let’s take a deep dive into Tom’s top picks to understand what, in his opinion, makes each of them so special.

Delauri Feteasca Neagra

€8.99 (75cl) A red Romanian superstar using mainly the native grape but with backing vocals supplied by the more familiar Shiraz and Cabernet Franc. Lovely ripeness with bramble and blackberry fruit and some carefully judged oak seasoning.”

Specially Selected Ventoux Rosé

€8.99 (75cl) One of my very favourite pink wines. I love it for its freshness and its sense of sunshine, the touch of strawberries and red currant and for its bone dryness. Such a stylish, very grown-up rosé and amazingly versatile with food.”

Specially Selected Cairanne

€9.99 (75cl) “A rich, round, and ripe red that is soft and seductive. Big on fruit from part of the Côtes du Rhône that got officially recognised in 2015. If you like Châteauneuf-du-Pape this wine may surprise you. Cairanne is close by, and not just in terms of location!”

Aspri Petra Greek Assyrtiko

€9.99 (75cl) A fabulous discovery from Greece, this fresh and fruity white wine has some surprises in store. There’s a touch of orange blossom and a hint of fresh ginger. Deliciously different and just the ticket with grilled seafood or just on its own.”

Specially Selected Clare Valley Shiraz

€9.99 (75cl) Many reds from Oz taste like fruit juice with added alcohol these days. Not this one! Here’s an Australian classic with tons of fruit, a generous dollop of spicy oak, lovely concentration, and very decent length.”

Specially Selected Bianco Toscana Sangiovese

€9.99 (75cl) This was a first for me: a white wine made from the red Sangiovese grape! And it’s simply lovely, very fragrant, juicy and full with just a suggestion of sweetness. Not your average bottle of white wine!”

Aldi is home to an award-winning selection of wine at incredible prices.

Most recently, Aldi’s Specially Selected Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore €12.99 (75cl) took home Gold at the 2022 Global Prosecco Masters hosted by The Drinks Business. No mean feat and another tribute to the quality of Aldi’s curated selection. From its award-winning Specially Selected range to seasonal reds, whites, rosés, there is always something to discover at Aldi. So, whether you’re in the mood to try something new or simply revisit an old favourite this National Wine Day, you are sure to be spoiled for choice!
