The Helix Panto, ‘Treasure Island’ announced today that a specially adapted sensory friendly performance will take place on Tuesday, 19th of December.
This year, The Helix Panto has teamed up to support Ireland’s Autism Charity, AsIAm as its charity partner, where 25% of ticket sales from its sensory show will be donated to the charity.
The specially adapted performance of ‘Treasure Island’ will include softer on stage lighting and compressed sound, with no sudden noises or bangs. The lighting in the auditorium will remain on ensuring the audience feel entirely comfortable throughout the performance, with a special breakout quiet space also available for families if needed.
In addition to these changes, no flashing merchandise will be available at The Helix for this particular sensory friendly performance. Assistant dogs are welcome in the theatre and a particular allowance is made for those who may need to move around more or who may react in different ways to the performance.
Produced by TheatreworX Productions, The Helix was the first theatre in Ireland to stage a panto performance incorporating the different sensory needs so that children can have an enjoyable festive experience with their family.
AsIAm is Ireland’s National Autism Charity who are leaders of a movement to transform society so that it works for autistic people and their families. AsIAm is autistic led representing, connecting, co-ordinating, and unifying the autism community in Ireland. The charity works to empower autistic people to reach their full potential, building partnerships for change and supporting society to be fully accepting of and accessible to every autistic person.

In the spirit of inclusivity and community, we believe in creating a safe space where everyone can enjoy the magic of live theatre. Our cast and crew always look forward to our sensory friendly show and we work closely with the team at The Helix and AsIAm to ensure we create a comfortable, safe and welcoming environment for families to enjoy their day out over the festive season”.
Fundraising Manager of AsIAm, Dick White said, “We are delighted to have the support of TheatreworX Productions with their production of Treasure Island at The Helix for this show on the 19th December. 75 cent of every euro we spend has to be generated from similar events, so this support is essential to our continued existence as we continue to work and campaign for the Same Chance for all autistic people in Irish society”
