Paul Byrne was the drummer and songwriter with highly successful 80s rock band from Ireland ‘In Tua Nua’ and has worked as drummer, singer and producer with many acts since including Shane MacGowan, The Texas Kellys, The Drays, The Guilty Party and The Unelectables. If you’ve seen the Sinead O’Connor documentary ‘Nothing Compares’ you’ll have heard Paul speaking, as it was he who first spotted her talent and brought her to a recording studio to work with the embryonic In Tua Nua.
As a singer Paul is best known for his lead vocal on the title track of ITN’s US breakthrough album ‘The Long Acre’ and then as singing-drummer with 90s cow-punk band The Texas Kellys while he also had a top 20 hit in 1992 with a song called ‘Do You Know What Hurts The Children’ under the name ‘Sugar Candy Mountain.
In 2014 Paul released his debut solo album ‘Cruel & Tender Ways’ to much critical acclaim and also released 3 singles from it. The album was co-produced by Paul and his long time collaborator Conor O’Farrell Brady, one of Irelands best known guitarists, who also played guitar on the album.
Since 2018 Paul has curated and organised the ‘Howth Roots and Blues Festival’ in his hometown, the quaint fishing village of Howth, just north of Dublin. 2022 was the most successful to date and the festival is set to grow and grow.
Watching all those great plus bands inspired Paul to finish off his most bluesy recording to date, with his new single ‘FUH (I Can’t Stop Falling)', due for release on 11/11/22
