Aldi’s Specially Selected Tipperary Dry Aged Black Angus Ribeye Steak was the first Irish product to receive the Crystal status by the prestigious International Taste Institute in 2019, an honour bestowed on a product for receiving the elusive three-star accreditation for three consecutive years. This product was then awarded three- stars in 2020, and this year, has once again been awarded three stars, bringing it closer to the much sought after Diamond Award, which is awarded when a product receives 3 stars in 7 out of 10 years.
Last year, Aldi’s Specially Selected Irish Black Angus Rib Eye Steak was also awarded the coveted Crystal status by the international panel of judges, having won three stars three years in a row. This year it was awarded 3 stars for a fourth time, also bringing it closer to the Diamond Award!
Receiving the Crystal Award this year, with three stars for the third year running is Aldi’s Specially Selected Irish Black Angus Fillet Steak!
11 Aldi beef products were entered into the awards with all 11 recognized for their superior quality and taste by the International Taste Institute. This was the most accolades won by an Irish supermarket at the awards demonstrating the superior quality of Irish Bord Bia Assured beef available to Aldi shoppers on a weekly basis. Independently judged by some of the best chefs and sommeliers in the world, the awards serve to recognise the highest quality food and drinks products on the market today.
Commenting on the honours, Aldi Group Buying Director John Curtin said: “Our Irish beef range has been receiving awards from the International Taste Institute for many years. This is now the third year that we can proudly take home a Crystal certification for another one of our beef products. The past two years’ Crystal winners; our Specially Selected Tipperary Dry Aged Irish Black Angus Rib Eye Steak and our Specially Selected Irish Black Angus Rib Eye Steak are now joined by our Specially Selected Irish Black Angus Fillet Steak. This is a huge honour for Aldi and ABP and we are very proud to have these products exclusively on the shelves in all 145 Aldi stores nationwide.”
Each year The International Taste Institute evaluates thousands of food and drink products from around the world and their jury of prestigious chefs and sommeliers follow strict tasting methodology making a Superior Taste Award the most renowned independent certification available, focused exclusively on taste.
